China’s High Speed Trains

During our trip around China we did quite a few long trips on China’s High Speed Trains. They are quite comfortable if you book ahead and get an allocated seat. The seats on most of our train travel were mostly full and there were quite a few passengers that had cheaper standing room tickets.

Some of the train lines are a bit slower than others, but we had several long trips where the trains travelled at 305 Kilometers per hour.

The fastest trip was the Shanghai MagLev

This is the fastest train in the world operating on Magnetic Levitation and traveling at 431 Kilometers per hour. This operates from Pudong Airport to the outskirts of the metropolitan area. The 30 km trip takes 7 minutes and 21 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 431 km/h (267.8 miles per hour). It was a lot of fun to experience this ride.

The Chinese Government are working towards a future faster MagLev train with speeds up to 600 km/h.
